Start Canicross: A Beginner’s Equipment Guide
New to canicross? You only need three essential pieces of equipment to get started safely and comfortably: a correctly fitted pulling harness for your dog, a bungee line, and a canicross running belt for you.
1. Choose the right harness
A purpose-designed pulling harness allows your dog to work forward under tension while keeping movement through the shoulders as free as possible. Fit is important: the right style and size depend on your dog's shape, measurements and how they pull.

If you're unsure about sizing, contact Sledwork UK with your dog's measurements before ordering. For dogs that need something outside the standard range, see our Custom & Special Order Harnesses.
2. Add a bungee line
A canicross bungee line connects your dog's harness to your belt and helps absorb changes in tension while you run. Choose the line length and connection that suit the discipline and size of dog.

3. Choose your running belt
A specialist canicross belt is designed to distribute your dog's pulling force around the pelvis rather than concentrating it around the waist. A stable, well-fitted belt can make a significant difference to comfort and running position.
